Fall Skincare Routine Over 50 – What I Actually Use

I get sent a lot of skincare. That is certainly not a complaint, but it also doesn’t mean everything automatically becomes part of my routine. Some products get tested once, while others quietly make their way onto my bathroom counter and stay there.

You know my rule: I demo, I don’t yap. If you’ve watched my videos, you’ve seen my skin up close, without a filter hiding what a product actually does.

So, instead of giving you another long list of everything I have tried, here is what I’m genuinely using on my skin this fall.

Starting With a Cleanser That Doesn’t Leave My Skin Feeling Stripped

I’ve been reaching for the Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser. It contains kale, spinach and green tea, and one pump creates a light lather that removes makeup, sunscreen and everything else that accumulates throughout the day.

My skin feels clean afterward, but it doesn’t have that tight, dry feeling that makes me immediately want to cover my face in moisturizer. That becomes increasingly important as my skin changes.

When My Skin Starts Looking Dull

When my skin looks a little dull and needs a refresh, I use the PCA SKIN Triple Exfoliation Peel Pads.

These have become my resurfacing step. I don’t use them just because a schedule tells me to; I reach for one when I look in the mirror and feel as if my skin needs some help getting its glow back.

I follow with the PCA SKIN Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum. It gives my skin the hydration it needs and helps it look smoother and more refreshed. The combination has worked its way naturally into my fall routine, which is usually how I know I genuinely like something.

My Nighttime Routine Depends on the Night

I would love to tell you that I perform the exact same skincare ritual every evening, but that isn’t true. My routine changes depending on what my skin needs and how much energy I have.

Lately, I’ve been using the Rodan + Fields REDEFINE line, including the clay cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum and cream.

Five steps may sound like a lot, but it takes approximately two minutes when I actually do it. My skin seems to drink everything up, especially now that the weather is getting cooler and the air is becoming drier.

On alternate nights, I’ve been reaching for the Vichy Liftactiv Collagen Specialist trio. I originally tried the eye cream, serum and cream together, and they have remained in my rotation. The line is also available on Amazon now, which makes it much easier to replace the products I use up.

The Small Detail That Makes a Difference

One product detail I keep coming back to is the applicator on the L’Occitane Immortelle Divine product.

It allows me to place the product exactly where I want it without wasting any. It may seem like a small thing, but sometimes those small details are what make a product enjoyable enough to keep using.

The Half-Face Test That Surprised Me

This isn’t technically part of my skincare routine, but I have to mention the Erborian CC Crème.

I applied it to only half of my face first because I wanted everyone to see the difference. My genuine reaction was, “What magic is this?”

It looks as though I’m wearing foundation, but it isn’t foundation. It is a CC cream, and it feels so lightweight that I can barely tell it is on my skin. My complexion looked smoother and more even, but my skin still looked like skin.

That is exactly the type of finish I want at this point. I don’t want to feel as though I’m wearing a heavy layer of makeup all day.

One More Product for Dry Fall Lips

I’ve also been using the DRMTLGY Needle-less Lip treatment. My lips tend to become noticeably drier once the weather changes, so I appreciate that this makes them look smoother without causing the uncomfortable stinging sensation that comes with some plumping lip products.

It feels comfortable enough to use regularly, which matters more to me than a product creating a dramatic temporary effect that I cannot wait to remove.

A Holiday Gift Worth Mentioning

OSEA has also released its limited-edition holiday sets. The Undaria Body Bestsellers set includes the products behind the glow you may have seen in my video—and no, that wasn’t a filter.

If you’re already shopping for the holidays or want to try the products yourself, you can use my code JODY10.

What Is Staying in Your Routine?

That is what has genuinely been on my face and in my routine this fall. It isn’t about using the greatest number of products or following a complicated routine perfectly. For me, it is about finding products I enjoy enough to continue using after the video has been filmed.

Have you changed your skincare routine for fall, or are you still using the same products you used all summer?

Some products mentioned in this post were gifted or originally featured in brand partnerships. Links and codes may earn me a commission at no additional cost to you. As always, I only write about products I have personally tried.

When the Seasons Change So Do We

When the Seasons Change So Do We

There is something about fall that makes change impossible to ignore. One day everything is green, and then almost overnight the leaves begin turning shades of gold, copper, and red. The light looks different. The evenings arrive earlier. Even the air seems to carry a reminder that nothing stays exactly as it was.

And maybe that is not a bad thing.

I think we spend a lot of our lives trying to make everything feel settled. We want the plan, the routine, the relationship, the home, and even ourselves to remain familiar. Familiar feels safe. But the older I get, the more I realize that life never really settles for long. It moves in seasons, and we move with it whether we intend to or not.

Change rarely arrives all at once

Most change does not announce itself with a dramatic before and after. It happens quietly. A routine that once worked starts feeling heavy. A goal that once mattered begins losing its pull. A room, a friendship, a job, or a version of ourselves no longer fits the way it used to.

Sometimes we choose the change. Other times it arrives without asking permission. Either way, there is usually an awkward stretch in the middle when the old season has ended but the new one does not feel fully formed yet. That in-between place can make us wonder whether we are moving forward at all.

Many years ago, I never imagined that my days would revolve around filming, editing, writing, negotiating, trying new products, and building an online business from home. This life did not arrive as part of one neat plan. It grew from one season ending before I was ready and another beginning before I completely understood it. In many ways, it has felt like organized chaos … but somehow, it has all come together.

Outgrowing something does not make it a failure

This may be the hardest part of change for me to remember. We often assume that if something ends, shifts, or no longer suits us, it must have gone wrong. But not everything is meant to last forever in the same form. Some things are right for a particular season, and that can still make them meaningful.

You can be grateful for what something gave you and still know it is time to move on. You can miss the way life used to be and still be curious about what comes next. You can appreciate an older version of yourself without forcing her to make every decision for the person you are today.

Good change can still feel uncomfortable

Calling change good does not mean pretending it is easy. Even positive change can come with uncertainty, nostalgia, and a surprising amount of second-guessing. There are days when the familiar looks appealing simply because we already know how to live inside it.

But comfort and happiness are not always the same thing. Sometimes comfort is only repetition. Sometimes the next chapter asks us to tolerate a little uncertainty while we make room for something better.

The trees do not seem embarrassed about changing. They do not apologize for becoming brighter, letting go, or standing bare for a while. They simply respond to the season they are in. There is something comforting about that.

Let this season be different

Change does not always have to mean turning your entire life upside down. It can be rearranging a room, trying a new routine, returning to something you once enjoyed, saying no without writing a five-paragraph explanation, or finally beginning the project you have been putting off.

It can also mean allowing yourself to want something different now. We are not required to keep making choices for a life we have already outgrown.

As the seasons change, I am trying to look at change less like proof that something is ending and more like evidence that life is still moving. There is sadness in letting go, but there can also be relief, possibility, and even a little excitement.

Maybe the goal is not to remain the same long enough to feel secure. Maybe it is to trust ourselves enough to keep changing.

So if life feels a little different lately, perhaps nothing is wrong. Maybe you are simply entering a new season … going through your own metamorphosis, much like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Change can feel uncomfortable while it is happening, but sometimes it is simply transforming us into who we are meant to become.
