The Summer Skincare Switch Up You Didn’t Know You Needed
As the temperatures rise, so should your skincare IQ. Summer brings longer days, stronger UV rays, and often, more sweat and oil production. So if you’re still slathering on that heavy winter moisturizer or skipping SPF (gasp!), it’s time for a seasonal skincare switch-up. Here’s how I tweak my routine for warmer months — and some of my favorite summer-approved products.
1. Swap Your Cleanser: Cream to Gel
In the winter, I love a creamy hydrating cleanser. But come summer, I switch to something lighter like a gel-based formula that helps clear sweat, oil, and SPF buildup without stripping my skin.
My Pick: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser – Gentle, dermatologist-recommended, and budget-friendly.
2. Ditch Heavy Creams for Lightweight Moisturizers
Thick creams can feel suffocating when it’s hot. I opt for a water-based or gel moisturizer that keeps my skin hydrated without clogging pores.
Try: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel – Lightweight, absorbs fast, and ideal for combo/oily skin.
3. SPF Every. Single. Day.
Yes, even if you’re mostly inside. I use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily, and reapply if I’m outside for more than a couple hours.
Fave for Face: Mixsoon Bean Sunscreen SPF 50 – Absorbs well and layers perfectly under makeup.
4. Add an Antioxidant Serum
Sun exposure leads to free radicals, which can cause premature aging. A Vitamin C serum in the morning helps protect and brighten.
Recommended: La Roche-Posay Vitamin C Serum – Potent yet gentle, with great results for sensitive skin.
5. Mask Smarter
Weekly clay or exfoliating masks help detox pores and prevent breakouts in the summer. I use something with natural fruit enzymes for a glow boost.
Summer Favorite: Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask – A clean beauty gem that makes my skin instantly brighter.
